I Pledge Allegiance, To The Flag…

When Tchell Dahhn, the glorious Founder, created Suddenly Ninjas and the TEARS Alliance back in 2008, he had a noble dream and a grand vision. However, those dreams and visions were somewhat hampered in their presentation by, well, shitty graphics.

Everyone (even ninjas) needs a banner to fly under; something to stand up and unite for. Since its inception, TEARS has had a, well, less-than-pledge-worthy logo:

…doesn’t exactly make you want to throw on some blue face paint and terrorize the English does it?

A change was needed. However, the road to a custom Alliance logo in Eve is…tricky, at best. When my predecessor Velocity Prime tried the process, he was literally made to jump through burning hoops of napalm in a Teletubbies costume while CCP interns hurled jeers and mid-sized stones at him (and that was just to get into the first round). However valiant his efforts, a new logo eluded us.

Beaten but not dissuaded however, the call went up to try again. Carefully adhering the sacrificial blood-letting and pagan ritualistic orgy requirements laid down by CCP for a custom logo submission, I asked fellow ninja (and fantastic graphic artist) Skjordr Longfang, of the “The Fang” ninja-blog fame for his help. Five drafts, a ninja-vote (you have NO idea how ridiculous a simple voting process can get with an alliance full of this ilk…), and THREE submission attempts later, I’m proud to say that we have our new logo:

With todays newest Incarna patch, the new alliance logo is now up on Eve-Gate, and will (supposedly) appear in-game soon. Again, a huge nod of appreciation goes to Fang for his talent and efforts in creating “Slappy the Carebear”, the down-trodden, beaten, and utterly broken weeping carebear who shall be our badge of pride, our call-to-arms, and our rallying banner.
